Check your figures
Enter the sponsor's income and any savings to see where you stand. Your threshold is £29,000 a year, or £88,500 in savings on their own.
Free 10-minute assessmentA solicitor checks your figures and the evidence before you pay any Home Office fee.
A guide only, based on the Immigration Rules (Appendix FM) as at October 2026. It does not cover every income type or the evidence rules in Appendix FM-SE, and it is not legal advice. Nothing you enter here is sent or stored.
Enter the sponsor's income and your savings to see whether they meet the spouse visa financial requirement, and what to do if they fall short. The checker uses the same figures as the Immigration Rules: £29,000 a year for most applicants, £18,600 plus amounts for children if you were already on the route before 11 April 2024, and savings above £16,000 counted at two and a half times the shortfall.
What the checker counts
- The sponsor's gross yearly income from a job, pension, rental or self-employment.
- The applicant's income only if they are already in the UK with permission to work. A job offer does not count.
- Cash savings held for six months in either or both names. Investments, property and money borrowed do not count as savings.
- Children only on the transitional £18,600 rule. Under the £29,000 rule the figure does not go up for children.
What it cannot tell you
Most refusals on money are about evidence, not the amount. Payslips and bank statements have to match and cover the right period, self-employed income is taken from a full financial year, and income from different sources can only be combined in certain ways. The financial requirement guide and the savings route guide explain the evidence. If you are close to the line, a free assessment is the quickest way to find out where you stand.
Questions people ask
My partner's salary went up recently. Which figure do I use?
For an employee who has been with the same employer for six months, the current salary. If the rise or the job is newer than that, the lower figure from the past twelve months may be the one that counts. We check which category you fall into.
Can my parents' money count?
Not as income. A gift can count as savings once it is yours, has been held for six months and its source is documented. Third-party support only counts in exceptional circumstances cases.
Does the checker work for a fiancé visa?
Yes. The fiancé and proposed civil partner visa has the same financial requirement as the spouse visa. Choose "First visa".
